The Second Sex Event

Time: 6 p.m. (Paris Time)

In celebration of the 15th anniversary of Rutgers Douglass alumnae Constance Borde and Sheila Malovany-Chevallier’s definitive translation of the first unabridged English-language edition of Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex, we are pleased to invite you to an exclusive event in Paris.

Join us for an enlightening evening with Constance and Sheila, in conversation with Carolyn J. Eichner, author of The Paris Commune: A Brief History, and Rebecca Mark, Director of the Rutgers Institute for Women’s Leadership.

The conversation will look at the exchange of ideas across the Atlantic, starting from the late 1940s when Simone de Beauvoir first travelled all over the United States, through the rich history of how French and American thought in politics, culture, and social change has shaped our lives. Constance and Sheila will guide us on their journey from New Jersey to Paris sharing their experiences translating one of the most influential books of the twentieth century.
